Q4- Evaluation

Q3-Evaluation

Question 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

For this task, I was required to pitch my initial music video idea to the rest of the class, who fall into my targeted audience range (14-25).
This was the feedback that I had received in the pre-production stage and this helped me understand my audience's preferences in relation tot he music genre that I had chosen:

In this pitch I discussed the themes and locations chosen, the narrative and performance elements of the music video then after my classmates gave me and my pair suggestions and their point of view.

Here the feedback given;
"Good dancers are needed and reliable actors and actresses"
"Good locations picked and good storyline so far"
"The colours and mise-en-scene should go well together "

There were some questions asked from our initial pitch like:
"How are you going to make the narrative and performance match?"
"What if the weather is really bad and you need sunshine in your music video as it is based around the summer vibe?"
"What shots will you do in a skate park as there is alot going on?"

Me and my pair took into consideration of the feedback we was given and made some adaptions to particular elements of the music video idea making it better suited to our budget. and time.

Focus Groups/Pitch Feedback

During the editing session our group showed our video to the class giving them a visual insight to the work that we have done and how we have created our idea into an actual product.

This feedback was very important because the class was a stratified sample of our target audience and their reaction to the video reflected the whole audience.

One comment by a classmate was
"the use of bright colours as the song is quite vibrant and upbeat which suits the theme of the sing ."
"Great performance by the actress "
" The locations are Amazing and some lighting was very professional and pleasing to look at "

We also received some critical feedback such as
" some shots were very basic and repetitive "
"the narrative should be more clear to the audience"

With all the feedback we received some improvements was made examples of the improvements made were adding coloration and adding effects to make it more interesting to look at and adding on more footage of close ups and other locations at the other half of the video so that it evens out everything and creating a muffled introduction to the song instead of using two different songs.

Editing (Rough cut) Feedback

All the feedback that I have received in the production of this advanced portfolio has enabled me to improve the quality of products. I was important for me to know my target audience preference in order for my products to appeal to them. Additionally it was essential that my stratified sample audience (the class) were reliable sources as they represented the whole audience of my products.
With the negative feedback that I got, although I was able to apply it to the music video and hopefully it turned out better than last time. I have taken them on board and will apply them to the next production to improve the quality of my products further.

TASK 8 - Research and Planning the CD/DVD cover and Advert Pitch

Question 3:What have you learned from your audience feedback?

This was the last feedback task in this portfolio. The feedback was related to the print product package.
This feedback was important to acknowledge what my audience think about the products made making me understand what my audience like.
This also gave them the ability to see how the ideas that I have pitched earlier in had taken from.

 Post Production Feedback

EXTRA Feedback from Family + Friends

This was the 2nd pitch done in this advanced portfolio. This pitch was to portray the initial ideas for the CD covers and advert. The layouts, colour schemes, distribution methods, font , photography and location was discussed.

The feedback that I got for this task had allowed me to understand what my sample audience thought about what I was aiming to achieve.

One comment was ;
"you should add some throughout the whole music video . "

All the feedback from this pitch helped me directly appeal to the targeted audience through the CD package and advert and also to be immediately identified on the market.

Q1- Evaluation

Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In our music video it challenges some of the conventions for example it follows the theory of Goodwin
Goodwin states that there are 6 main conventions of a music video. These are the relationships between visuals and lyrics , relationship between visuals and music , genre characteristics , star Image , Voyeurism and Intertextuality .

Performance

When researching existing Zara Larsson music videos one convention we particularly highlighted was the use of performance. We identified from our research that in not only Zara Larsson videos but other pop artists there is live performance or choreographed dance in the majority of videos. However instead the artist sings the lyrics of the song into the camera and dances to the beat showing different types of emotion, when planning we decided to use this convention as it occurs throughout the majority of the videos and is therefore an important and familiar convention .

In the majority of our video the singer looked directly into the camera singing the lyrics of the song and also dancing to the song.
Also Andrew Goodwin said that record labels demand a number of close ups of the artists in music videos and this is what we have done.

Locations

Another aspect of pop music videos are the locations. When researching Zara Larsson existing videos, we identified that the videos for this artist in particular were filmed on just one location and it was more in a studio based song where it had a lot of green screen production involved . However this was simple and it still had a summer vibe to the video because the use of colours and effects. We looked closely at the video "Heart skips a Beat" A song from the artist Olly Murs who is a Pop Singer , and this video was filmed around parks and mainly skate parks . We used this convention by filming parts of our video in the park and skate parks however because our location (The park) was a bit plain because of the too much greenery so we developed this convention by filming in other places too .

We feel this development worked as we kept the locations realistic and they are all in relation to each other and made sure that it linked with the genre and the lyrics. The locations we used included a basketball court , the park, the skate park.

Because the song of this artist has a Music video which doesn't have a narrative we decided to add a narrative which challenged us to do our own research on the typical stories conveyed in typical pop genre music. This Video doesn't have much of location changes and we had to develop conventions from the artist’s previous products in order to create a new video for our chosen song and look at other pop genre music to make the video interesting and appeal to the target audience. After researching existing products, my group has identified codes and conventions of music videos and through planning and production we have attempted to use, develop and challenge these aspects.

Editing

Our research of pop music videos showed that this music video was fairly fast paced and animated with lyrics. We discovered this was due to the editing in which shots are fairly short and a simple cut is used between each shots.

When planning, we decided to also use short clips and we planned to make some of the lyrics pop up to make it more of a pop genre ,also adding shorter cuts nearer to the end of the video so that it quick and it is not boring and it goes with the beat.

However, in production although we have used this convention with the majority of our shots being short, we have developed this as in a few particular shots as we pan around her singing to the camera and there there are many close up shots to define the lip-syncing.

In Zara Larsson Music video she starts of with a shot of her wearing a heart necklace and she takes it off and throws it  in which then she starts singing which sits the whole song because its about having fun. In our video we used the unravelling of a necklace but it a different way by doing a scene of a date which where the girl doesn't like it and its about moving on. There are some scenes where the singer in our music video where she is being funny and just dancing around and not lipsyncing to the video gives an element of fun to our video associating to the upbeat pop music genre.

Final DigiPack

This is my final digipak, I am overall really pleased  with how it went because I think it really showed what I wanted to show in terms of her versatility with the artsy effect. I decided to stay with the graffiti theme as that is recurring in our music video and i thought that this would make them link well.
