Voyeurism

Voyeurism is when it refers to the idea of looking in order to gain sexual pleasure.

Voyeurism is the idea of the males gaze in music videos, which is usually done by including a female within the music video and manipulating the camera to meet the desires of the male gaze. Theorists such as Goodwin suggest that female performers will become the target of the male gaze by using camerawork and editing to get close up shots of the body and showing a sexual treatment of the star. This can also be reinforced by the use of dancers in male artists videos in order to show the attraction to the performer.

In female artists videos, the idea of voyeurism when the male body is shown is confusing as it raises questions about how the female viewer will interpret and respond to the images shown. In some female artists videos, they do use this gaze to show that they are independent and that they can be sexually provocative and in control of the situation.

This further emphasizes that we are watching someone for pleasure. 
Example of a female being objectified. 
An interesting example of women being objectified is Rihanna's -Stay as this features both a man and a women, but they are treated very different. So, I am going to look the music video 'STAY-RIHANNA FT.MIKKY EKKO' . In the video close up shots are shown of rihanna undressing and getting into the bath , the motion of her undressing has also been slowed down to draw emphasis to it. 

This forces the viewer to watch closely. When she is in the bath there is quite a few high camera angles being used to show all her body, this is voyeurism as we are watching her in what would normally be a private situation, the high angle shots create a status, showing us to be more powerful, but also allow us to see what is being sold to us. 

Throughout the video we continue to see closeups on parts of the body which are attractive to men, ie her lips, the back of her neck. the camera also focuses on the tattoos behind her neck and it moves slowly so that viewers can see that clearly. I have noticed that her makeup is very neutral and it shows the nudity of the music video as it suits the music video.

Further more when we are introduced to the male character there are no such closeups, and we first see his back from a low angle showing men has authority, and we see a long shot of him sitting on the side of the bath, he also doesn't get in the bath as Rihanna does, showing an equality in the way they are being treated. Interestingly the lighting is also very different, he is in darkness for a lot of his shots whereas Rihanna has bright light on her for her performance, also showing a difference in who is being sold and showing there sexuality more.
